Hearing Associates, P.C. was established in 1987 by Audiologist Gary Dockum. Shortly after, Audiologist Stuart Trembath partnered with Gary, unified with the goal to provide residents of northern Iowa and southern Minnesota with exceptional audiology services.
Originally located in the North Iowa Mercy Health Center West Campus in Mason City, Hearing Associates moved in 1993 to its current location in the Mason City Clinic Building, adjacent to Mercy Hospital, in Mason City, Iowa.
Hearing Associates added the expertise of Audiologist Dr. Tanya Harper Rowe in 1996 and Audiologist Rachael Dolezal in 2009. We also enjoyed Audiologists Linda True, Abram Vore, Katie Mennenga, Angela Harvey, and Ashley Bahr being a part of our staff in the last decade.
Throughout the years, Hearing Associates has worked closely with the ENT Clinic at The Mason City Clinic serving Mercy North Iowa Hospital, Mason City. This professional cooperation was inspired by three Otolaryngologists; the late Dr. Russell Schurtz, Dr. Louis Garcia, and Dr. Phillip Lee. The staff of Mason City ENT Clinic continue to be an integral part of sharing the care for mutual patients.
With this working partnership with ENT, Hearing Associates has also been serving several outreach clinics through Mercy Hospitals. These locations include Britt, Cresco, Hampton, Iowa Falls, New Hampton, and Osage.
In 2003, Hearing Associates also added Mayo Clinic of Albert Lea, MN. Additionally, Hearing Associates is a long-standing respected cochlear implant referral to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
In the winter of 2016, Hearing Associates started monthly classes to help hearing aid wearers and their family members and friends learn more about hearing loss, hearing devices, and hearing preservation. In the spring of 2016, we also expanded to another location, acquiring Cedar Valley Hearing Services to have a clinic in Charles City.
To serve our growing clientele, our professional office staff has expanded over the years. Under the leadership of the Director of Operations, Alex Crippin, who joined Hearing Associates in February 2015, all of the staffat Hearing Associates is able to do everything possible to make the patient experience pleasant and life-changing. They assist in improving hearing and in turn enhance the daily life, overall health, and relationships for our patients.
This includes three friendly front desk personnel: Front Office Coordinator, Katelin, and Front Office Professionals, Brittany, and Nichole. Our Patient Care Coordinator, Tanner, connects with new and returning patients to answer questions, address concerns, and encourage them to set up their next appointment. Heather is our vital Insurance and Billing Coordinator.
As one chapter comes to a close, a new one begins…
In December of 2014, Gary retired after over 30 years of helping thousands of patients achieve better hearing. Gary always said, “We strive to provide the very best in hearing healthcare, one patient at a time.” While it was bittersweet to see Gary go, we are confident in our ability to continue this tradition of delivering “the very best” in years to come.
A lot has changed in thirty years, including nearly invisible hearing aids that are Bluetooth or iPhone compatible, audiometric tools that allow us to perform evaluations with pinpoint accuracy, and a growing staff to meet the needs of our nine clinics. One thing that has not and will never change, however, is our commitment to our patients.
Because Hearing Associates, P.C. has been as much a part of the community as the patients we serve for decades, we have had the pleasure of serving generations of families. It is a joy and honor to earn the trust of returning patients and their referrals to extended family members and friends. We genuinely desire to provide hearing care that makes a positive difference in the lives of so many. We look forward to continuing our goal of providing exceptional audiology service.
